Newcomb Spring of North Carolina is seeking a full time Quality Engineer for our manufacturing plant in Gastonia, NC.

The Quality Engineer plans, coordinates and directs quality programs to ensure continuous control and quality assurance in the production of spring and strip products consistent with established standards. This hands-on position includes, but is not limited to:

  • Develops and initiates the standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluations. Depending on customers' requirements, including PPAP's (Production Part Approval Process);
  • Plans and oversees the analysis, inspection, testing, and/or integration to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and quality of a products;
  • Develops and analyzes statistical data and product specifications to determine and monitor present standards and establishes proposed quality and reliability expectancy of finished products; applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes;
  • Directs workers engaged in inspection & testing, as well as production, to ensure continuous control and compliance;
  • Performs engineering reviews of design documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and Company quality records;
  • Investigates and documents customer complaints regarding quality. Prepares and analyzes the Material Discrepancy Reports (MDR); makes recommendations, and implements changes;
  • Able to effectively present and explain information one-on-one and in groups; respond to questions from individuals, groups of managers, clients, vendors, customers & the general public;
  • Prepares for and coordinates ISO Audits and registrations
  • Has knowledge of and responsible for OSHA training, documentation, and enforcement, (including fork lift training, Safety Data Sheets, lock out tag out, and personal protection;)
  • Has knowledge of or experience with programmable and manual load testing equipment, calipers, micrometers, gauges, inspection equipment and other basic tools and software;
  • Able to read, interpret, explain, and discuss blue prints & CAD drawings.
  • 2 and 3D CAD modeling knowledge and experience; able to produce accurate parts and models;
  • Mechanical/Materials background preferred, including statics/dynamics, mechanics of materials, calculus, and matrix algebra.

The desired candidate must be: be well organized, accurate, and self-directed; able to meet deadlines; excellent written and verbal communication skills; good listener; extremely hands-on, a working supervisor; able to work with and work through varied levels of employees as well as varied personalities. Technically savvy/ well versed in computer applications, especially Microsoft Office, database software, ERP (Employer Resources Planning software); experience with Job Boss and/or Unipoint is a plus.

A minor amount of overnight travel required. Could supervise/direct from 1-5 Quality Inspectors. Associate's degree or equivalent; or, two to five years related quality experience and/or training; or, an equivalent combination of education & experience.
