History at Newcomb Spring
While looking to the future, Newcomb Spring is a company built on a solid foundation, a history
with goals and ideas which are still valued today. With a manufacturing history going back to the 1890s with the Charles A Cook Company, and then the Reliance Spring Company, Newcomb was incorporated in Brooklyn New York in 1921 with the goals of providing the highest quality spring products and service. Three generations of the Jacobson Family have continued to lead the company into the future.
George L.C. Jacobson acted as president of the company from its founding. He built Newcomb Spring into a business which customers could trust to deliver high quality products on-time and for a competitive price. These traditional business values are still intrinsic to the Newcomb Spring Corporation today. But it was George L.C. Jacobsons hard work and vision that created a company ready to lead an industry.
While the nation battled in World War II, the country also experienced an industrial and technological revolution. With the changing needs of the industry, G. Donald Jacobson, who had filled his fathers position as president, set out to structure a company which could meet these needs. While maintaining his fathers emphasis on close customer contact and traditional business fundamentals, G. Donald Jacobson looked to diversify the Newcomb Spring network. First with the opening of a plant in Connecticut to serve the New England area, then subsequently by opening facilities throughout the United States, he built a company that could serve customers needs closely, and with the regional attention each required. His goal was to build a company that was not necessarily the biggest, but the best, serving the individual needs of each market.
With the values of his father and grandfather in place, G. Donald Jacobson, Jr. stepped in as President of a company ready to lead in the 21st century. While utilizing Newcomb Springs strengths of adaptability and traditional customer ideals, he has strengthened the company, adding the most modern technologies to the manufacturing process. Donald Jacobson, Jr. along with his two brothers, have adapted the business focus to create facilities capable of producing larger quantities and completely customized parts. A company which can act instantaneously and exactly has been built - a company ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
In 1999 Robert Jacobson became President of Newcomb Spring, as his brother, G. Donald Jacobson Jr. assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer. While moving the companys headquarters to Atlanta, the third generation of the Jacobson family continues the traditional business fundamentals of George L.C. Jacobson, and is ready to lead the industry into this new millennium.
